I have to post these pictures because I think these custom Storyboard Books came out amazing. I wish we had a photo of the inside back cover, where Disney played off of the regular Storyboard Book “modern rules of narrative storytelling” with their own Disney-fied story tips.

A big THANKS to the awesome crew over at Pinball Publishing out in PDX for working with us on this project and taking these pictures for us. Here’s what the regular Storyboard Book looks like, in case you’re new to the game.
You can buy these Disney Brothers Storyboard Books at the Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio of San Francisco.

This cup says it all, made exclusively for and sold in Design Museum Shop in London by Build x Design Museum. The tea towel says it all, too (well, everything I need to say when I am talking to my husband about his turn washing the dishes, at least. Maybe this will make the request more well-received?).

A happy customer who happens to be a great photographer loved the look of his brand new Storyboard Books so much that he took a series of photos of them, post haste, and emailed them to us on the New Year. They are AWESOME.
His name is Joe Gomez, of the fabulous Nashville, TN and you should check out his stuff at joegomezphoto.com.

YIKES! Clicking through my favorite blogs this AM I saw that The Storyboard Book was featured in the Gift Guide 2009 for DesignWorkLife, one of my favorite design blogs from the creative minds over at Seamless Creative. Courtney over there who does all the curating for their blog, Twitter, and ETC!!! even took the time to reply to my email. SO. AWESOME.

Check out all the other awesome gifts in the Guide, and all their other incredible design spotlights.
Yippee!

Project night came again this week, and along with it another healthy snack courtesy of DaveO. I mean, I’m all for improving your skills and perfecting technique, but after the mac and cheese last week, and this weeks deep fried tater-tot goodness, I might ask for some perfecting of salad making skills next time. Or perhaps jello-making. Or green bean blanching?
We also got to do some brainstorming and social media chatting about a new product that my friend Marci is helping with promoting, Pestos with Panache. We snacked on the delicious different pestos above, Gorgonzola with Fig and Pumpkin Chipotle and chatted strategy and usefulness of twitter and facebook fan pages. It was fun, but it got the wheels turning and now I want more!
The rest of the time was spent practicing Photoshop skillz like color balances and the key beauty retouches, and sorting through large batches of Storyboard Books. I’m getting better at PS and liking it.

Last night was the first installation of a weekly get-together at my place that I have deemed Project Night. I would have to say that this PN was a full blown success, if only for the creation and consumption of these fried delights, apple beignets.
Suffering from an overload of apples from a recent trip to the orchard, Heather and Brittany decided to get out the deep-frying bravado and make these puppies. They were DELICIOUS, and not a single one lasted the night.
The recipe is from dearly departed Gourmet, and you can find it here. Sadly, there was no butter rum caramel sauce, but I have to wonder if they even needed it.
Other PN successes: a full storyboard book 2 pager artfully done and photographed, new web sites set up and on the way to being designed, rickety bike seat stabilized and fixed up, new concepts created for postcard project, yarn cut, tied and readied for holiday gift making.
Let’s see what happens next week…

In full disclosure, this is my other baby: the Storyboard Book. I have been working on it a lot lately and felt like posting a little love for it here on my own blog.
I would have to say that it’s the perfect little notebook to carry around in your pocket or bag all the time. I have a couple floating in my giant purse–mostly kept for list making, idea hashing, and postcard mock-ups. Lately I’ve been drawing out the floorplans of bedrooms in the apartment and deciding what furniture, lamps, rugs, whatever, I still need. I’m no film director or producer, but these things have proved useful over and over. Plus, I can practice my sub-par hand drawing skills.
Anyhow, check out our site at www.thestoryboardbook.com. We have a free downloadable storyboard template on there, too.
(ps. you can buy them, too!)

My daily ‘storyboard’ google alert finally gave me something really cool and interesting–an interview with the storyboard artist for Where the Wild Things Are, Federico D’Alessandro.
Check out the interview here, on Yello! (Smashbox Studios) and definitely take the time to click through those storyboard frames they have up–they are pretty fricking amazing.
