kalamata and feta pride

food flag greece-675x459

Continuing on a bit with my Greek pride from yesterday, I saw these amazing renditions of national flags done up in culturally respresentative foods and they made me happy.  Apparently they were put together for the Sydney International Food Festival.  Brilliant concept!!

Can you guess which countries these food flags represent?  Try hard.

The teacher in my graphic design class brought up the art of Saul Bass last week when we were discussing coming up with ideas for movie posters, and I have been fairly smitten ever since. I love love love the aesthetic, clean and graphic with enough grit to not feel totally slick and great dynamic color schemes.  There’s really something to be said for the ability to covey such a clear message with such a small amount of graphic imagery.

I also had no idea that he was the designer behind so many of todays most iconic logos.  Check these out, too:

water print!

officespace5

I really, really want the water poster on the wall in this picture.  I think it is the perfect piece of art to hang over your desk for those moments where the brain is running and you want something to look at, but don’t feel like letting yourself get distracted by a bunch of little things on a tack board, or pictures of loved ones, or whatever.  This is a serious pro-thinking print.

Of course I just spent the last hour or so scouring for this specific print on the internets, and had to quit before my brain exploded or my hand fell off.  Needless to say, couldn’t find it.  Apparently the artist who took this desk shot is Jim Bastardo, who has some pretty awesome photos on his site for you to check out, but not this one.  Bummer.

everything-i-have-1

Well, if you don’t know what you have, rest assured in knowing that this is everything that artist Simon Evans has, right down to the canned food in the cupboard and the ill-fitting denim.

Here is Google Translates’ version of what the linked blog, Caligraffiti, says in Portuguese:

Every beginning of the year is the same, old papers thrown away, donated clothes forgotten, new year is new life. And as usual, we always make that analysis of what we have, what we have achieved, in short, who we are.

The artist Simon Evans decided to put everything on paper, literally. A poster called I Have Everything (Everything I do) Evans cataloged all his possessions, clothing remnants of the avocado. Here’s the idea that the Capricorn in me loved it.”
.
Come to think of it, I don’t even really WANT to know everything I have.  Shudder.

when it rains

when it rains it pours

On a sunny day, it’s still pouring.  Though in this case it’s all ideas, all the time.  The good type of rain, not that annoying Seattle drizzle.

O-HI-O

Just wanted to post this for my Ohio friends, since I saw this, decided it was cool, and I actually know people from Ohio now.

Then I looked at the rest of Mikey Burtons stuff and realized it made me super happy.  Like these:

Mikey Burton is from Philly (by way of the midwest)–check out his designs here.  The show posters are good stuff.

the neighborhoods of the heart

heart poster

This poster by Ork Posters is so frickin’ cool.  Some good friends have the Brooklyn neighborhoods one in their living room, and I covet it every time I’m there.  This one is amazing and might very soon be going up in the bedroom.
