perfected imperfection

future-of-money-0

I came across is this amazing piece of work over on Ministry of Type.  The designer talks about how he designed this piece for Wired magazine, and the beauty of the inherent imperfections of banknotes.  It’s the type of thing you don’t necessarily think about, but then offhandedly notice an off-kilter line or color or typeface that doesn’t fit.  Banknotes are made specifically to be imperfect, and these designs for the magazine piece are a stellar example.

Check out the blurb on guilloches, too (the fine pattern of lines used on banknotes to build visual texture, color and, of course, inherent imperfections of pattern).  Very cool.

This cup says it all, made exclusively for and sold in Design Museum Shop in London by Build x Design Museum.  The tea towel says it all, too (well, everything I need to say when I am talking to my husband about his turn washing the dishes, at least.  Maybe this will make the request more well-received?).

Trying really hard not to spend all morning playing with the Fonts text setter on the House Industries website, and failing miserably.

Awesome stickers for your keyboard by Christopher Monro Delorenzo.  I love them, and wonder if me and my secret glances to the keyboard when typing would get used to them.  Either way, they rule.

savior

statefont

After having to repeatedly trace Minnesota into Illustrator when designing a friends business calling cards, I magically find this font today when searching randomly.  DOH.  I should have known better. They also have the continents!

Seriously, these are the things that make me happy.

Download this font here, and let all your state and continent needs be filled.  Providing you, uh, have those needs.

over&over

over and overover and over pg 1 over and over pg 2

I spied this book in my neighborhood coffee shop, Glass Shop, and convinced the owner Francesco to let me borrow it for a couple of days so that I could drool over it in the privacy of my own home.  It has solidly landed the #1 spot on my holiday gift wish list–I want it BAD.

Mike Perry (aka MIDWESTISBEST) is the curator/compiler of this so-called “catalog” and the art within is vivid and inspiring.  His personal illustrations are killer, too.  Check out his blog, and his online catalog of work.

You can buy the book (hint, hint) online through his SuperMarket store HERE.

Gimme.

shameless

In full disclosure, this is my other baby: the Storyboard Book.  I have been working on it a lot lately and felt like posting a little love for it here on my own blog.

I would have to say that it’s the perfect little notebook to carry around in your pocket or bag all the time.  I have a couple floating in my giant purse–mostly kept for list making, idea hashing, and postcard mock-ups.  Lately I’ve been drawing out the floorplans of bedrooms in the apartment and deciding what furniture, lamps, rugs, whatever, I still need.  I’m no film director or producer, but these things have proved useful over and over.  Plus, I can practice my sub-par hand drawing skills.

Anyhow, check out our site at www.thestoryboardbook.com.  We have a free downloadable storyboard template on there, too.

(ps.  you can buy them, too!)

Good lord I need one of these.

It’s from my new site obsession: House Industries: and their blog and objects and fonts and…

House Industries is having a Pop Up Shop (the new IT thing in NYC, apparently) on October 20, and I plan to go, and drool.

Maybe these struck the simple aesthete in me, but I absolutely love how crisp and clean these line drawings are.  The use of the cool script font keeps these from looking too plain, too.   These were made as table signs for a couples wedding rehearsal dinner by Paperfinger Calligraphy & Design.   Check out their cool blog paper tastebuds here.

Love it.

New friends we’d all like to have

maude-is-good

There is a brand-spankin’-new blog out there that I’ve fallen in love with in just a few short days.  I love loves like that.  Hard and fast.

It’s called Friends of Type, and well, they are showcasing some lovely, lovely typefaces and fonts.

Also can we puh-lease talk about the awesome devil horns symbol to signify that you like the post??   Brilliant.

Just sayin’.
